BANGOR, Maine — A convicted sex offender reportedly decided to take off his clothing Monday evening and run around nude on Odlin Road, police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Bangor transient wasn’t identified because he wasn’t arrested or charged, Edwards said. He was found in the area of Dunkin’ Donuts and Holiday Inn at around 6:30 p.m. and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a mental evaluation.

“He really wasn’t naked,” Edwards said. “He was covering his private area with the clothes we was carrying.”

The suspect is known to Bangor police and is a convicted sex offender, the sergeant said. He is one of approximately 210 convicted sex offenders living in Bangor.
