BUCKSPORT, Maine — Students from Deer Isle to Van Buren are among those honored recently by the Ramassoc Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Ramassoc Chapter for many years has encouraged some of the state’s far-flung schools to participate in its educational contests and honors.
This year’s awards were:
DAR Good Citizens:
• Ashland Community High School, Taylor Marie Baker.
• Bucksport High School, Meagan Ann Harriman.
• Deer Isle-Stonington High School, Janette Frances Merritt.
• Van Buren High School, Nathan LaPointe.
Each student received a certificate, recognition pin, wallet card and $100 scholarship from Ramassoc Chapter.
Outstanding work in American history:
• Bucksport High School, Holly Hunt.
• Caribou High School, Duncan J. Flynn.
• Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School, Kaine Kingsbury.
• Deer Isle-Stonington High School, Ian Pelletier.
• George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill, Ariel Dauk.
• Van Buren District Secondary School, Brandon Ouellette.
Each received a bronze medal, a booklet on the Constitution of the United States of America and a book concerning history.
Good Citizenship Medal Award presented to an eighth- grade student:
• Bucksport Middle School, Ashley Ann Lancaster.
• Blue Hill Consolidated School, Chase Benedict Johnson.
• Center Drive School in Orrington, Jane Branch.
• Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School, Stephanie Dame.
• Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary, Abigail Knowlton.
• Holbrook School in Holden, Ashley Hinckley.
• Penobscot Elementary School, Phoebe Wentworth.
• Sedgwick Elementary School, Justin Gray.
• Van Buren Middle School, Esther Winslow.
Each received a certificate and medal of award.
The chapter is made up of women who are members of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Each has proved her descent from someone who provided military, civic or patriotic service during the American Revolution. The NSDAR motto is “God, Home and Country.”
