VIENNA, Maine — A pilot with the Maine Warden Service is being credited with spotting a 3-year-old boy from Vienna who had wandered away from his home.

Ben Lehr was reported missing about 2:30 p.m. Sunday by his father. He was found unhurt about two hours later.

Officials say pilot Dan Default spotted Ben in the tall grass a distance from his home.

The Kennebec County Sheriff’s office says searchers also discovered 147 marijuana plants allegedly being cultivated by the missing boy’s father, 41-year-old Jonathan Lehr.

The elder Lehr is now facing charges of marijuana cultivation and endangering the welfare of a child. The Department of Health and Human Services is also investigating.

Lehr did not immediately return a call left at his home seeking comment.
