PORTLAND, Maine — A 10-year-old Massachusetts girl who was injured when a tree fell on her family’s campsite in Lebanon, Maine, is getting better.
The Portland Press Herald says Emily Malewicz, of Millis, Mass., was sitting up and talking Tuesday after being taken off a ventilator.
Her mother, Kathleen Malewicz, wrote on Facebook that there had been doubts whether Emily would be able to breathe comfortably without the ventilator. It says her first words after being taken off the ventilator were, “I want to go home.”
Emily, a quadruplet, was hospitalized after a large tree fell on her family’s tent at the Flat Rock Bridge Family Resort during a violent storm on the night of Aug. 9. Emily was pinned under the tree inside her sleeping bag. Her parents, her sister and two brothers suffered minor injuries.
