PORTLAND, Maine — For years, Maine Democrats have had an annual summer fundraiser called the Edmund Muskie Lobster Bake. Now Republicans are getting into the act with a Calvin Coolidge Clambake.
The Maine Republican Liberty Caucus is holding the event on Aug. 26 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland. They’ll serve up lobster and steak for $50 or $45.
Organizers say the events celebrates the legacy of the “laissez faire” president who tackled corruption in government and tried to stay out of the way of businesses.
Keynote speaker will be John Fund, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal. The event is not affiliated with the Maine Republican Party.
