JEFFERSON, Maine — Authorities are searching for an armed man who impersonated a state trooper while trying to force his way into a home in Jefferson.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Michael Murphy says the man forced the barrel of a handgun through a crack in the door Saturday night and got into a tug of war with one of the residents. He fled after residents said they called police.
Murphy says the man claimed to be a state police officer, but that his appearance — he was wearing a white costume mask, a bandana and black clothing — suggested otherwise.
Murphy told the Kennebec Journal that deputies and state troopers searched the woods around the home but couldn’t find the man, who likely was attempting a robbery.
