HOULTON and DANFORTH -Winston E. Kinney, 87, passed away Sept. 11, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born June 21, 1923, in Homesville, New Brunswick, the son of Harvey Kinney and Erma Idella (Broad) Kinney Tidd. Winston’s family moved from Canada to Houlton in the early 1930s, and then moved to Danforth in 1938, where he worked on the family farm and graduated from Danforth High School in 1942. After high school Winston served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Veronica Dow, the daughter of Bertion and Elsie Mae (Neal) Dow, Nov. 16, 1946. In 1957 he moved his family to Millinocket, where he was employed by Great Northern Paper Co. and Millinocket Public Works Department. In 1963 they moved to Wallingford, Conn., where he was employed by Ortence, Inc. and then Pratt & Whitney – UTC as a carpenter until his retirement in 1993 at age 70. Winston and his family moved back to Houlton in 2006 where he spent the rest of his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Veronica (Dow) Kinney of Houlton; son, Gerold Kinney of Lee; daughter, Gail Kinney of Houlton; sister, Leola Cowen of Danforth; two grandsons, Gerold Kinney Jr. and Aaron Kinney, both of Florida; his beloved dog, Punky; several nieces and nephews. Winston’s family thanks all those who helped care for him in his last days. A celebration of Winston’s life will be announced at a later date.
