HAMPDEN – Richard “Dick” F. Ness, 66, passed away Sept. 17, 2010, in Greenville. He was born Jan. 6, 1944, in Hartford, Conn., son of Floyd R. and M. Louise Ness. Richard graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1962, and was a member of Essex Street Baptist Church. He retired from sales with General Mills, Inc., and most recently was employed by Acosta Sales and Marketing, working in local Hannaford stores. Enjoying time with his wife traveling and visiting with his children and grandchildren, he spent some of his free time with his close buddies fishing, hunting and playing golf. Richard was a devoted husband and friend, a wonderful loving father and grandfather and was appreciated by all for his unique sense of humor. His parents predeceased him in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan (Bartlett) Ness; a daughter, Lori Fortier and her husband, Roland; a son, Dan Ness and his wife, Connie; grandchildren, Cody, Cassidy, Camden and Colin; and several close cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family, many close friends and co-workers. At Richard’s request, the family invites relatives and friends to share in a memorial reception for conversation and refreshments 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
