PORTLAND – Christine “Peggy” Payson, 67, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Maine Medical Center. She was born June 24, 1943, in Princeton, daughter of the late Chester and Marion McDowell. A graduate of Princeton High School in 1961, she also graduated from School of Cosmetology in 1962. Peggy, in that profession, helped support her family for many years and then was a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband moved to Pownal in 1965. After her children were of school age, Peggy returned to the work force at IGA, Yarmouth; West Industries and Home Health Care, and then worked at Pownal Elementary School, where she retired as manager of the hot lunch program. She assisted with voter registration for many years and truly loved cooking for her family. Peggy was a longtime member of Pine Tree Mini Tractor Pullers and Maine State Pullers Association. She supported the clubs and her family for more than 30 years in these activities. Peggy received many awards for her service and was a great force behind family, extended family and friends for all their accomplishments from both organizations. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert “Bob” Payson; four children, Linda Coulombe and her husband, Roger, of North Waterboro, Barbara Payson of Pownal, Jeff Payson and his wife, Trisha, of Richmond and Greg Payson and his wife, Beth, of Topsham; a brother, Philip McDowell of Princeton; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Kenny; and a sister-in-law, Judy McDowell. A memorial visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, where memorial funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev.
