LINCOLN – A prominent former Lincoln businessman, Russell Frank Smart, 81, passed away Sept. 23, 2010, at a Lincoln health care facility. Born Feb. 2, 1929, in Passadumkeag, he was the youngest of six children born to William “Manson” and Florence (Harriman) Smart. He graduated from Milo High School and was a 1949 graduate of Husson College. Russell was the head of cost accounting and payroll for Great Northern for several years. A self-made man, he grew up on a farm and built an empire, being a three-branded dealer as founder and owner of A & S Motors, Lincoln, the area’s General Motors dealership, for 27 years. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, claiming the month of November as his own. He also enjoyed fishing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He bought his first snowmobile in 1964 and was never without one for the rest of his life. He was married to Eunice Irene Willett-Smart for 45 years, from 1950 to 1995. He was a member of Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, the M.A.D.A., past master of Composite Lodge 168 of Lagrange, Anah Temple Shrine and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Charles Smart, Albion Smart, Clarence Smart, Evelyn Harpe and Howard Smart. He is survived by his sons, Alan and Donna Smart, Gary Smart of Lincoln, and David and Kim Smart of Lee; six grandchildren, Gregory Smart Sr., Franklin Smart, Angus and Kara Smart, Amy and Tim Vilnave, Randy and Mary Smart, and Michelle Smart; and seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gregory Jr., Zachary, Rochelle, Matthew, Myranda and Landon. Also surviving him are his former wife, Eunice I. (Willett) Smart; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside Masonic memorial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Gould’s Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag. In loving memory Alan, Gary, David and families
