PRESQUE ISLE – Josephine Bonomo Cenedella, 94, passed away peacefully Sept. 29, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Presque Isle Nursing Home from complications after hip surgery. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior whom she loved dearly. She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Pittsburgh, one of 10 children to Samuel and Josephine (Solla) Bonomo, who were born in Sicily, Italy, came to the USA in the early 1900s and operated a small Italian grocery store. After attending Westinghouse High School, Pittsburgh, Josephine married Joseph Louis Cenedella in 1938 and had three children, Dr. Richard Cenedella of Isle of Palms, S.C., Raymond Cenedella of Plantation, Fla., and Dr. Arlene Cenedella of Easton and Loxahatchee, Fla. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Cenedella worked in secretarial capacities as a Gray Lady Hospital volunteer and loved to play bridge. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Mount Lebanon, Pa., and Plantation Community Church, Plantation, Fla. She was well known for her inspiring – and not too long – pre-meal graces. She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of almost 50 years; two sisters, Clara Bonomo and Mary Raccopi of Pittsburgh; and four brothers, Anthony, Conrad and Frederick of Pittsburgh and Samuel Bonomo of Sacramento, Calif. She is survived by three brothers, James of Columbus, Ohio, Carl of Tucson, Ariz., and Alaska, and Albert Bonomo of Pittsburgh. Included in her survivors are her two sons, Dr. Richard and his wife, Andrea, and Raymond; daughter, Dr. Arlene and her husband, Warren Sims; grandchildren, David and his wife, Anne Cenedella, Laura and her husband, Jeff Schoenekase, Susan and her husband, Jim Sherrow, Laura Sims Gallitano, Sarah Sims Erhmann and Deb Sims-Olson; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Nick and Louis Cenedella, Tyler, Kendall and Madison Schonekase of Overland Park, Kan., Ashley, Sabrina and Michelle Sherrow of Derby, Kan., Samuel, Ella and Ruby. She always remembered her dearest friends, Sophia Hildabrand and Gwen Bonomo. A service of the remembrance and interment will be held in the near future in Pittsburgh at a time to be announced. She will be buried with her beloved husband, Joseph, at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Penn Hills, Pa. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to the charity of your choice or Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Aroostook County.
