HAMPDEN – Wayne “Sam” Sawyer, 66, husband of Charlene Sawyer, passed away Oct. 2, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1943, in Bangor, son of Willis and Helen Sawyer. Wayne was a master electrician and was self-employed as an electrician for more than 30 years. He enjoyed his work and all the people he met working for many local contractors and homeowners. Wayne was very proud to be able to work with his son, Corey for more than 20 years. Before working for himself, he was employed by the city of Bangor and Lucas Tree Co. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, cutting firewood and puttering on his camps. Wayne was always the first to help when anyone was building their own home or camp and his unique way of doing things will be missed very much. Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlene Sawyer; sons, Corey Sawyer and wife, Amy, and Keith Sawyer and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Erika Jacobsen and Neil Sawyer; great-grandson, Mason Crowley; brothers, Gordon Sawyer and Conrad Goodine; sister, Gracie Datlenko and her husband, Gary; aunt, Marion Hunter; many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by Mark and Mike; two “special daughters,” Cheryl and Karen; and a very special longtime friend, Wess Whitmore. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Wayne’s life will be announced at a later date. Messages of condolence and memories may be shared through www.hampdengilpatrick.com.
