MARY E. WALKER ALBION – Mary E. Walker, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, Waterville. She was born March 21, 1923, in Quincy, Mass., the daughter of Ned and Louise (Sloan) El-Hajj. She was educated in school systems in Winterport, and Shenandoah, Pa. She was married to Nelson E. Walker from Aug. 17, 1946, until his death June 22, 2000. In years past she enjoyed stenciling tins and furniture, antiques, braiding rugs, sewing and her large flower gardens. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping and spending hours checking out the store sales in the Maine Mall, South Portland. She lived for 62 wonderful years in South Portland with her husband, Nelson, and raised their family there. More recently she had been a resident of Mount St. Joseph, Waterville, where she was visited daily by her son and daughter-in-law. She worked until age 75 in the South Portland school system, was a guidance secretary at Mahoney Junior High School, and always enjoyed the children and her work associates. Two close friends at school were Jane Foster and Don Lonsway. A friend and neighbor for 62 years was Lorraine Coyne, with whom she enjoyed her many visits and lunch dates. Mary enjoyed watching her next-door neighbor’s girls, Libby and Annie, grow into lovely young women and could always rely on the King family’s assistance in her later years. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Bard and Ned. She is survived by one son, Gary E. Walker and wife, Peggy, of Albion; one grandchild, Nelson E. Walker II and wife, Kelly; four brothers, Ted El-Hajj and wife, Nancy, of Crescent City, Fla., Lionel “Sonny” El-Hajj and wife, Jackie, of Winterport, Gibron “Gib” El-Hajj and wife, Diane, of Hampden and Don El-Hajj and wife, Gen, of St. Petersburg, Fla. There will be no services at her request. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
