BLUE HILL – Robert V. Sweetall, 82, died Oct. 8, 2010, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Green Tree, Pa., son of Frank J. Sweetall Sr. and Mary B. (Connelly) Sweetall. He graduating from Dormont High School in 1946 and entered the University of Pittsburg in 1950. He graduated in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After serving two years on active duty, he earned a master’s degree in industrial and labor relations at Cornell University in 1958. He then worked for 15 years for two Fortune 500 companies in New York City, Babcock and Wilcox Co., and Kennecott Copper Corp. During this period, he and his family resided in Wilton, Conn., and New Canaan, Conn. In 1973 he moved to Blue Hill and started a consulting business. In 1975 he became associate director of personnel for Cornell University and in 1984 became assistant vice president for labor relations. He retired in 1986, and moved to his home in Blue Hill. In retirement he pursued his interests in historical matters, especially in his own community. He spent much time in restoration of his 1808 house and barn. He served as a trustee of Blue Hill Historical Society, the Jonathan Fisher Memorial and Blue Hill Cemeteries Association. He compiled a bibliography on Blue Hill, which was published by the historical society in 1989. He is survived by his beloved wife, Blanche M. (Stashio) Sweetall; two children, Donald W. Sweetall of Virginia and Joy M. Sweetall of Newburyport, Mass.; one grandchild, Summer A. Sweetall of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and two sisters, D. Rowene Buttlar of Upper St. Clair, Pa., and Mary Fran Sciulli of Worthington, Ohio. He was predeceased by two sisters, Audrey M. McGrogan and Muriel R. Flaus; and two brothers, Donald and Jack. A memorial Mass will be offered at St. Margaret of Scotland, Green Tree, Pa. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newburyport, Mass.
