PRESQUE ISLE – Anna P. Wachlin, 95, passed away Oct. 4, 2010, at her son and daughter-in-law’s home in Philadelphia. A longtime resident of Presque Isle, Anna spent the last five years in Philadelphia with her family. Anna was born May 18, 1915, in Limestone, to Mark T. and Bertha Foote Phair. She graduated from Oak Grove High School, started college in Farmington and then obtained her degree in history from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Anna taught English for 20 years at Skyway Middle School in the SAD 1 school system. She also taught students music and art as well. In addition to teaching, Anna enjoyed painting both watercolors and oils. She was an avid gardener and loved walking the nearby trails at Mantle Lake. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, playing the piano and reading. Anna also loved animals – she rode horses when she was younger and always had at least one animal under her roof. Up until the last year of her life she enjoyed surprising people with her unique sense of humor. Anna was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Her husband, Leonard R. Wachlin; and her brother, Maurice A. Phair, passed away before her. She is survived by her son, Albert P. Wachlin and his wife, Joan; and two grandsons, Albert Jr. and Mark and his wife, Erin. Private services will be held at a later date in Limestone.
