BAR HARBOR and EASLEY, S.C. – Margaret Silk Smith, “Nanna,” 91, died Oct. 15, 2010, at Countryside Village, Easley, S.C., where she had been a resident for the past several years. She was born June 29, 1919, in Bar Harbor, daughter of the late Hiram Norton and Mae Ida (Wright) Silk. She lived in Bar Harbor prior to moving to South Carolina. Margaret was a homemaker and a member of Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Greenville. She was wife of the late William Henry Smith Sr. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Smith Brooks and her husband, Craig, of Florence, S.C., and Kathy Ann Smith of Seneca, S.C.; a son, William Henry “Bill” Smith Jr. and his wife, Toni, of Liberty; and a sister, Patricia Curtis of Bar Harbor. Nanna had six grandchildren, Michael Labo, Suzan Kleckley, Tripp Smith, Brian Garland, Lizz Middleton and Leigh Ann Martin; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Madeline Doyle; and a brother, Clarence Silk. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 21 Ledgelawn Ave., Bar Harbor, with Father John O’Hara, celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
