PITTSFIELD – Charles “Bob” R. Wood Jr., 91, passed away Oct. 19, 2010, in Scarborough, after a brief illness. Born Dec. 29, 1918, in North Troy, Vt., he was the son of Charles R. and Muriel M. Wood. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked for H.P. Hood Co., Newport, Vt., until 1952, when he was transferred to the company’s Newport facility. He retired in 1982. Bob resided in Pittsfield with his family for many years, and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Pittsfield. He moved to Portland in 2006 with his wife of 68 years, Orma M. Wood, who predeceased him in 2009. Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing and puttering in his workshop. He especially loved his fishing trips with his son, David, who predeceased him in 1999. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Lynda, and Richard and his wife, Geri, all of Utah; a daughter, Candace Hill of South Portland; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The Wood family thanks everyone at The Inn at Village Square, Gorham, for making Bob’s last years so pleasant, and extend their appreciation to Gosnell Hospice, Scarborough, for their compassionate care. He was a great husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed by all. At Bob’s request, there will be no funeral.
