BOONVILLE, Mo. – Edward G. Johnson Jr., 88, of Hartmann Village, died Oct. 18, 2010, in Boonville, Mo. Ed had a full life. He was born and raised in Indiana and was stationed with a U.S. Navy band in Portland, during World War II, where he met and married his wife, Lois. After the war Ed earned his Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Arts degree at Ball State University in Indiana. Ed’s career included being the band and orchestra teacher and counselor at Cantrick Junior High School, Monroe, Mich. In 1967 after earning a doctor of education degree at the University of Toledo, Ohio, Ed joined the faculty of the University of Maine, Orono, as an associate professor in the college of education. After retirement Ed and Lois settled in Charlottesville, Va., for 24 years, using it as a base to travel within and outside the U.S. Ed and Lois moved to Boonville, Mo., in February 2010. Ed’s interests included playing dominoes and cribbage, woodcarving, hiking, camping, singing and visiting family and friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents, brother, one sister; and infant son, Philip Garfield “Peegee.” Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois; children, Steve Johnson and Pat of Manitou Springs, Colo., Carol Cox and Ron of Boonville, Mo., Bob Johnson and Debra of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Maggie Schalch and Dusty Curtis of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Brause of Ohio.
