From the work of Dr. Robert Wagner, director, UM School of Forest Resources: About 10 percent of Maine’s 15 million-17.5 million green tons of annual wood harvest is used to produce electrical power in biomass plants and mills. About 5 percent is harvested for firewood in home heating. The balance of the harvest is saw logs for producing solid-wood products (40 percent) and pulpwood for paper (45 percent).
