ENFIELD – Frances “Fran” Jean Leonard, 72, loving wife of Eugene Leonard, died Oct. 31, 2010, at a Bangor hospital, after a short illness. Frances was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Corpus Christi, Texas, daughter of William J. Miller and Altha M. (Fullmer) Miller. Fran was a very active and faithful communicant of St. Leo Catholic Church, Howland, as well as a member of Ladies of St. Ann. She liked to hunt and was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed painting, crocheting and embroidering. Fran loved to fly private airplanes and served in the U.S. Army. She was very active in the pro-life movement – The Right to Life. Up until a year ago, Fran and Gene spent many winters in Florida. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Osram Sylvania for 27 years. In addition to her husband of 52 years, Eugene, and her mother, Altha, Frances is survived by her son, Francis V. Leonard and his fiancee, Kimberlee Hewes; three daughters, Pamela A. Leonard, Angela M. Briggs and her husband, Michael, and Cynthia A. Leonard; four grandchildren, Maryanne Hawkes, Timothy Briggs, Meghan Leonard and Jillian Leonard; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Edwards; nieces, Janet Riner and Karen Fennema; along with several more nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cynthia Ann, in 1959. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Leo Catholic Church, Howland, with the Rev. James MacGee, presiding. Interment will be at St. Matthew Cemetery, West Enfield.
