BOSTON — Brianna Cavanaugh scored what proved to be the winning goal just 26 seconds into the game as the University of Massachusetts Boston defeated the University of Southern Maine 1-0 in the first round of the women’s soccer Little East Conference tournament Tuesday.
Molly Kuchar picked up the assist on the winning goal for 13-4-3 UMass Boston. Katie Coscia stopped four of eight shots.
Kat Rothe made six saves on 19 shots for the Huskies who end their season at 5-15.

Plymouth State 2, Southern Maine 1
At Plymouth, N.H., Kristina Conroy scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another to lead third-seeded Plymouth State University by sixth-seeded University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference quarterfinal.
Conroy netted the winning goal for 12-6 Plymouth State 29:59 into the first half. Olivia Colborn scored in the 14th minute off a pass from Conroy. Hilary Lemelin made five saves on seven shots.
Amy Richardson scored for the 8-13 Huskies 15:13 into the game on an assist from Bethany Bougie. Kayla Kennedy made no saves on nine shots.
