HOULTON – Darrell E. Glidden, 64, passed away peacefully Nov. 4, 2010, at a Bangor hospital, after fighting a courageous battle with multiple health issues. He was born Dec. 6, 1945, in Oakfield, the son of Cedric H. and Mildred E. (Jones) Glidden. Darrell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Ricker College and was employed for 20 years with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, retiring in December 2005, having earned many accommodations. He was a devoted family man, doting on his two daughters and sons-in-law, a son and daughter-in-law, and eight grandchildren. He enjoyed all sports. Throughout most of his life he was involved with softball and baseball – playing and umpiring, was an avid golfer and an accomplished horseshoe thrower. He loved any team from Boston, especially the Red Sox. He was a 40-year member of Houlton Lodge of Elks and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Hannah (Schools) Glidden; his father and stepmother, Cedric and Violet Glidden, all of Houlton; two daughters, Michele Cuddy and her husband, Edwin, of Jackman and Cheryl Gentle and her husband, Heath “Trapper,” of Houlton; a son, Darrick Glidden and his wife, Denise, of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Crystal Allen, Haley, Madison, Hunter and Maddox Cuddy, Chelsea and Keegan Gentle, and Gretchen Glidden; one sister, Joanne Higgs and her husband, John, of Canterbury, New Brunswick; a stepsister, Barbara Pratt of Hermon; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother in 1987. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Dave Raymond officiating. A time of fellowship will be immediately after in the church hall.
