DURHAM — Top-seeded University of New Hampshire spoiled two leads by No. 4 University of Maine to earn a trip to the America East championship with a 3-2 victory in a field hockey semifinal Friday.
Hayley Rausch scored twice, including the winner in the second half, to power the 14-6 Wildcats. Whitney Frates assisted both of Rausch’s goals and scored a goal of her own in the first half to tie it. Kylie Lyons had the assist.
Jocelyn Mitchell scored 10:48 into the first half off a Brittney Cummings assist to put the 13-6 Black Bears up 1-0. Kelly Newton again gave Maine a lead at 19:40 with an assist from Mitchell.
Katherine Nagengast saved five of seven shots for the Wildcats while Maine’s Brittany Fleck turned away nine of 12 shots.
