JONESPORT, Maine — A local man who last was seen a week ago has turned up safe and sound on the other side of the continent, according to police.

Robert “Rob” Leighton, 26, last was seen Nov. 6 walking away from his home along Indian River Road, state police said earlier this week. Leighton had been involved in an argument at his home before his disappearance and had been drinking, police said.

A statement released Friday by the Maine Department of Public Safety said that Leighton called relatives Thursday night and told them he was in California.

“Family members say Leighton told them in a collect call that he traveled to Santa Ana, Calif., on a Greyhound bus,” the statement indicated.
