GREENBUSH, Maine — A single-car accident on the Cardville Road left a passenger dead at the scene and the driver injured Saturday night.

Maine State Trooper Christopher Foxworthy confirmed the identity of the passenger as 25-year-old William Allen IV of Bangor.

The driver of the Subaru Outback was William Torres Jr., 19, of Orono.

“The vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Conditions were dry and dark, and we’re reconstructing the accident now,” Foxworthy said. “The roof of the vehicle had to be cut off to get both men out of the car.”

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. Torres was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Fire and rescue units from Old Town, Greenbush and Milford responded to the 7:19 p.m. call along with state police and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department officers.

A section of the Cardville Road was closed for a couple of hours in order for the accident scene to be completely detailed by a forensic mapper.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation and reconstruction are ongoing, according to Foxworthy.

No information on Torres’ condition was available from EMMC on Sunday evening.
