BANGOR – My mother, Loretta (Godin) French-Carr, died Nov. 13, 2010, after a long struggle from a head injury. Her parents were Adelard and Agnes (Theriault) Godin of Maisonnet, New Brunswick, and Caraquet, New Brunswick. She was the ninth of 12 children raised on French Island, Old Town. She was born Jan. 15, 1927. Loretta was very proud of her Acadian ancestry and enjoyed the “finds” of genealogy tracings. She very much enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, dancing, cooking and medicine. As a practical nurse she worked locally, including for Dr. Manter in EKG department at Eastern Maine Medical Center. During her last year, she enjoyed her family photo album and genealogy books that were set up for her. She was predeceased by three spouses, John Bradley, Victor French and K. Alfred Carr; her youngest daughter, Mary M. (Bradley) Sutherland; an infant grandson and eight siblings. Surviving are two sisters, Florence Costain of Brewer and Rose Newt of Westbrook; a brother, Fred Godin of Texas; her eldest daughter, Loretta Andrea Libbey – her caregiver and friend during these last years; a daughter, Ann Seyffer; sons, Andrew Grover and James Bradley and their families; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Edward, Mike, Jeannie, Jackie (French) Burnette and Victoria French and their families; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Alice Traylor of Ohio and Alice Goodin of Levant. Loretta enjoyed the staff at Westgate Manor during her stay there, who also became very fond of her and were like an extended family for her. She made “rounds” on the units and smiled a lot. She will be missed. Private burial will be in Orrington. Donations in her memory may be made to New Hope Hospice, for their kind care, P.O. Box 757, Holden, ME 04429; Westgate Manor Activity Fund, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401 or to a charity of ones choice. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
