ORLAND – A. Douglas Snowman Sr. passed away Nov. 18, 2010, at his home, after a courageous battle with his illness, during which he never lost his sense of humor. He was born July 15, 1938, son of Albea and Blanche (Nicholson) Snowman. He was educated at Orland Grammar School and was a 1957 graduate of Bucksport High School. Doug married the love of his life, Charlotte (Orcutt) Aug. 8, 1961, in Orland, and became co-owner with Charlotte of Snowman’s Grocery in 1970 after working as a plumber and at St. Regis Paper Co. He also drove a school bus for 15 years. He was a member of Orland United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, and was a member of snowmobile, canoe and antique car clubs. Doug had many interests, including collecting antique cars, snowmobiling, playing Scat with friends, and going to Bucksport Senior Center for the music on Sundays. His greatest activity was being on the dance floor with his beloved wife, Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Robin Coombs; sons, Allen Jr. and Terrence; granddaughter, Halie; grandsons, Andrew, Zachary, Treben, Chad and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Connor, Logan, Madylin and Rylee; many stepgrandchildren; sisters, Jeanne Flannery and husband, Edward, and Patricia “Tippy” Gross and husband, Cuddy; special sister-in-law, Dodie Roi; special brother-in-law, Lionel Harvey; many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Susan. He will be sadly missed by Little Buddy Bear. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Molly, Katherine, Margaret and Sandra; brothers, Vincent and Robert; and son, Robert. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Orland United Methodist Church with Pastor Ralph Green and Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland.
