NEWBURGH – Merle A. Ross, 62, passed away peacefully Nov. 18, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Merle was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Levant, to Albert E. and Gertrude (Bickford) Ross. Merle served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War before going to work at Eastern Fine Paper as the yard foreman. Merle’s family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed camping and spending time with. Merle is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Jennie (Smith) Ross of Newburgh; his mother, Gertrude Ross of Carmel; two daughters, Amy Ross and fiance, Erik Morrison, and Tammy Ross and Jack Lint; four grandchildren, Timothy, Abbigail and Joshua Lint, and Erika Morrison, all of Newburgh; siblings, Paul Ross, Pauline McTague and husband, Winston Sr., Royce Ross, Michael Ross and wife, Karen, and Robin Wiggins and husband, David; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as very close friends whom he loved very much, Dennis Ryder Sr., Evie and Kevin Pazara, Brandon, Brenden and Heather. Merle was predeceased by his father, Albert E. Ross. A funeral service with military honors will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Immediately after the funeral, family and friends are invited to Hampden Snowmobile Club to share in a potluck dinner and a continued time of remembrance.
