AUGUSTA, Maine — Hundreds of family and friends have paid their respects to a 20-year-old soldier from Maine who was killed in Afghanistan.
According to the Morning Sentinel, about 350 people attended Friday’s funeral for Cpl. Andrew Hutchins, who was killed Nov. 8 in the Khost province in eastern Afghanistan near Pakistan.
During the service at the Augusta Armory, Col. Valmore Vigue called Hutchins a great young man and a great soldier.
Hutchins was from New Portland and a 2008 graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson.
Gov. John Baldacci ordered U.S. and Maine flags flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in Hutchins’ honor.
