PORTLAND, Maine — A Casco man has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in a crash that killed two passengers in his car.

Twenty-year-old Nicholas Sparrow of Casco entered his plea Friday in Cumberland County Superior Court. According to WMTW-TV, a judge ordered that his bail remain at $200,000 surety or $50,000 in cash.

Prosecutors say Sparrow was drunk when he sped away and crashed into some trees after a deputy sheriff tried to pull him over in Casco late one Saturday night last August.

His passengers, 29-year-old Thomas St. Saviour of Hiram and 14-year-old Michael Daye of Baldwin, were killed.
