DOVER-FOXCROFT – John Joseph Whitney III, 52, died unexpectedly Nov. 19, 2010, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born April 3, 1958, in Bangor, the son of John J. Whitney Jr. and Elizabeth B. (Gagnier) Nevells. John attended school in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol; Elks Club, Ellsworth; and Eagles Club, Brewer. John loved music, laughter and dancing, and enjoyed going to Jordan’s Snack Bar. He is survived by his mother of Bangor; sons, John J. IV of Bangor and Matthew Inman of Trenton; daughter, Amanda Goguen of Bangor; grandchildren, Emma and Connor Goguen, Adam, Elijah and Cameron Inman; brother, Brent D. Whitney and wife, Lori, of Ellsworth; sisters, Brenda Whitney of Lamoine and Susan Stantial and husband, John, of Bucksport; special friends, Serrena Lovley and Debbie Young; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, two infant brothers, paternal and maternal grandparents. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant.
