BANGOR and BREWER – Catherine Robertson Newbury Gilman, 67, went to be with her Lord Nov. 21, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Bangor, daughter of Alvin and Leone (Hammond) Robertson. Catherine grew up in Brewer and was a 1961 graduate of Brewer High School. She was employed by ZF Lemforder and General Electric where she retired in 2009. She loved Beano and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Catherine was a member of Second Congregational Church of Brewer, where she was an overseer, and member of the woman’s fellowship group. She will always be remembered for her hard work ethic and positive attitude. Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Stephen Gilman; children, Craig Newbury of Holden, Kelly Howe and her husband, Steven, of Old Town, Scott Costa of Winterport, Stephen Gilman Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Warren, Kaine Gilman and his wife, Brenda, of Dexter, and Sonja Gilman of California; brother, Robert Robertson and his wife, Rose, of Luka, Miss.; sisters, Sandra Whittington of Glenburn, and Dolores Blanchard and her husband, A.J., of Brewer; grandchildren, Jennifer, C.J., Ashley, Dustin, Richard, Samantha, Katie, Nick, Michelle, Amber, Aaron, Harley, Morgan, Olivia, Payton, Kaine, Andrea, Camper and Draylan; nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Pam Hill; and special friend, Larry Dowling. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Newbury; son, Richard Newbury II; brother, Ronald Robertson; and sister, Lynn Smith. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Richard Hyman, pastor of Second Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be after at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. After interment relatives and friends are invited to chare conversation and refreshments at Second Congregational Church of Brewer, 607 South Main St., Brewer.
