MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Marjorie Colsher Tkacz, 88, passed away Nov. 22, 2010, surrounded by family at her home. Marjorie was born March 30, 1922, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Robert R. and Anna Steinrok Colsher. Marjorie attended Abington High School, Abington, Pa., and Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., where she met her future husband, Albin P. Tkacz. They married Sept. 26, 1942, and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. While waiting as Albie served his country in World War II, Marjorie worked as executive secretary for Mr. Isaac Levy of the CBS Affiliate, WCAU, Philadelphia. In 1946, after Albin was discharged from the Navy, he and Marjorie, along with Marjorie’s parents, bought and revived Blaisdell Orchards, Winterport. Marjorie was the business manager of the orchard for more than 46 years. During the Winterport years, Marjorie raised two daughters, managed the family business, and was active in community service. This service included singing in the choir at Winterport Methodist Church, chairperson of Winterport School Board, chair-person of Winterport PTA and member of Winterport Women’s Club. Marjorie also enjoyed her friendships formed through her membership in Bangor Municipal Women’s Golf Association. Upon retirement in the late 1980s, Marjorie and Albie moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to enjoy warm weather and golf. Marjorie was an avid golfer with membership at Myrtlewood Golf Club. The Tkacz’s again enjoyed their memberships in women’s and men’s golf leagues at Myrtlewood. Surviving Marjorie are her husband of 68 years, Albin Peter Tkacz of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Nancy Jean Tkacz Browne and husband, Allen, of Falmouth and Betsy Tkacz Lee of Newcastle; two beloved granddaughters, Anna Marie Lee and Laura Louise Lee; a sister, Anne Sando and husband, Briant, of Indianapolis; nephew, Robert Sando and wife, Sally; niece, Bonnie Sando; brother-in-law, Paul Joseph Tkacz and wife, Joan, of Marlton, N.J.; brother-in-law, Matthew Epright; niece, Lisa Fielding; and nephews, Gary Epright and Alan Epright of Pennsylvania. The family thanks Marjorie and Albie’s many wonderful friends for their support and kindness during her illness. A special thanks to her friends at Regency Hospice for their loving care. A memorial service will be held noon Thursday, Dec. 2, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home Chapel, Myrtle Beach, S.C., with the Rev. John Rea officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held spring 2011 in Winterport.
