CARIBOU – William “Bill” Quimby, 82, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 27, 2010, in Caribou. He was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Caribou, son of the late Albert and Lilly (Paterson) Quimby. Mr. Quimby served with the U.S. Air Force, was a retired carpenter and employed by the civil service at Loring Air Force Base for many years. He married Gertrude Gagnon and she predeceased him in 1998. Mr. Quimby was a lay minister for many years and helped pioneer and open several area Pentecostal churches in the area. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Bill volunteered many hours at Caribou Nursing Home and enjoyed singing at numerous events there. Bill loved to sing and had copy written several songs that he had composed. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish, and he will be remembered by many for his great hunting and fishing stories. Bill loved to talk and socialize and it was not uncommon for him to be gone from home for several hours just to “run to the store.” He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Jenni and Joseph Beles of Westmont, Ill., and Julia Quimby of Caribou; one brother, David Quimby of Caribou; two sisters, Evelyn Michaud and Mable Wilcox, both of Caribou; two grandchildren, Matthew and Rachael Beles; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Jewell officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. After the service all are invited to Bethel Pentecostal Church for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Quimby may do so through Caribou Nursing Home Memorial Fund. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
