BANGOR – Henry Burns, 70, died Dec. 11, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Sangerville, the son of his beloved mother, Aylmer Wallace. He married Caroline Greenlaw in 1958. They struck off for Torrington, Conn., in 1961, where he began working at Torrington Manufacturing. After two years he went to work for Farm Automation, Amenia, N.Y., installing and repairing silo unloaders. He loved being on the road, traveling all over New England and parts of New York. Being on the road all week put a strain on his family, so he went to work at American Cyanimid, Wallingford, Conn. He worked there for five years and he and Caroline divorced in 1968. He then moved back to Maine, worked for Eastern Fine Paper for three years and began working on the road again covering New England and parts of New York, this time installing and repairing vending machines. He met his present wife, Karen, and stopped working on the road. He started working maintenance at a wonderful place called the Phillips-Strickland House, Bangor, where the residents get the best of care from the best staff in the state. He loved everyone there. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; as well as daughters, Kathie Welch and husband, Neal, of Cheshire, Conn., Kristina Wickett of Veazie and Jessica Sargent and her husband, Russell, of Milford; and a son, Robert Burns and his wife, Jodi, of Meriden, Conn.; siblings, Harvey “Bud” Burns and his wife, Beatrice “Bea,” Donna Dumont and her husband, James, and Betty Burgess and her husband, Dallas “Ike”; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Beverly White of California. At Henry’s request, there will be no services. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory is requested to send it to Phillips-Strickland Residents Activity Fund, 21 Boyd St., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer.
