LEVANT and AUGUSTA – Jesse Daniel Goodwin, 85, passed away peacefully Dec. 11, 2010, after a brief illness at Togus Veterans Affairs Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Levant, son of Jasper and Marjorie (Libby) Goodwin. He attended Levant and Bangor schools until he was called to serve his country. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. After the war, he came home to reside in Levant. He retired from Bangor and Aroostook Railroad after 35 years of service. He was a member of Kenduskeag Masonic Lodge No. 137. He is survived by three daughters, Marie Goodwin of Pittsfield, Cynthia Smith and her husband, Roy, of Glenburn, and Lorraine Goodwin and her fiance, Garry Dinkins, of Bangor; six grandchildren, Richard R. Dort of Pittsfield, Sgt. Lance C. Tasker of Fort Campbell, Ky., Rachel Johnson of Orono, Frank Johnson IV of Verona Island, Mark Smith of Bangor and Derek Smith of Milford; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn H. and Hunter Tasker; two brothers, Forrest and J. Fuller Goodwin of Levant; one sister, Florence Smith of Deltona, Fla.; many nieces and nephews. A very special thank you and appreciation to the caregivers and personnel on Togus NHCU 73 for the many years of care and support. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where family and friends may visit 9 a.m. until the time of service. After the funeral service interment with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
