PALMYRA – Dorothy (Deering) Rowell, 87, of Main Street, passed away with grace and dignity Dec. 16, 2010. “Dossie” was born March 1, 1923, in Harmony, one of seven to Carroll and Bessie Deering. Marrying Charles B. Rowell, July 4, 1941, Doss and Charlie together formed several successful businesses and entrepreneurial adventures. Her tireless support of her husband, her children and “the sisters” will remain her legacy. Dossie’s quiet strength and wise ways made her a mentor and guide to those that knew her. She was loved by many and will be missed, yet inspired, by many more. She is survived by a son, Larry Rowell and wife, Donna, of Hartland; two daughters, Delores Parillo and husband, Frank, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Jan Marie Chesterton and companion, Wayne, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and four sisters, Caroline Reed of Harmony, Polly Sawyer of Newport, Ruth Post of Cambridge and Barbara Hume of Augusta. In addition, Nana Doss leaves behind five grandchildren, Tina Parillo, Heidi Rowell, Michelle Rowell, Eric Rowell and Scott Parillo; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1993; and two brothers, Francis and Donald Deering. A graveside service will be planned in spring 2011 at Village Cemetery, Pittsfield.
