AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci says nearly $325,000 is being raised by state workers and retirees to benefit charities in Maine and beyond.
Baldacci and state business regulation Commissioner Anne Head say the four-month campaign of workplace giving was winding down, and was expected to collect $325,000 by the end of this week.
The Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal is an annual, voluntary campaign benefiting about 500 charities.
A website, www.maine.gov/msecca, was established so employees could donate through either payroll deductions for 2011 or a one-time donation.
