GREAT POND – Richard W. Southworth, 77, husband of the late Maria (Roffo) Southworth, died Dec. 18, 2010, surrounded by his family at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 18, 1933, in Maynard, Mass., son of Hiram and Dorothy (Leach) Southworth. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years retiring in 1971 and then worked for Xerox Corp. for 22 years. He was a blueberry farmer and a member of Aurora Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his two sons, Richard of Somerville, S.C., and David of Williamsburg, Va.; three daughters, Patricia Carter of Milford, Cheryl Steeves of Kenduskeag and Mary Murray of Apollo, Pa.; two sisters, Constance Chidley of Tampa, Fla., and Shirley Crovetti of Amesbury, Mass.; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews; and his companion of nine years, Carol Giles and her son, Nick. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with Pastor James Heard, of Church of Life and Praise, officiating. Friends may call 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday. Interment with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Great Pond Cemetery.
