BANGOR – Paula Williams passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at a Bangor nursing and rehabilitation center, after a lengthy illness. Paula was born July 18, 1953, in Bangor, daughter of Paul Kenneth and Margaret (Kane) Smith. Paula graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 1971, and worked for many years at the family printing business, LH Thompson Printing, Brewer. Throughout the years, Paula held many positions in the New England harness racing industry. She was licensed by the state of Maine and was most recently the program director for Bangor Raceway and Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs. In addition, she worked for a number of years at St. Joseph Hospital in the information technology department. Paula was a graduate of Clown College and previously volunteered her time as a clown. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, making many beautiful items for her beloved nieces, nephews and close friends. Paula was predeceased by her father, Paul Kenneth Smith, in 2007. She is survived by a daughter, Shawnna Smith of Bucksport; her mother, Margaret Smith of Brewer; her seven brothers and sisters, Dawn McDonald of Hampden, Tom Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Holden, Peggy Craig and her husband, Dean, of Fort Myers, Fla., Veronica White and her husband, Terry, of Stetson, Greg Smith and his wife, Rae Anne, of Clifton, Kathy Novosad and her husband, Tim, of Sugarland, Texas, and Denise Jones and her husband, Roger, of Seminole, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Paula’s family expresses their sincere thanks to the staff of Bangor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where Paula received extraordinary care; Wanda Ambrose for her help and friendship during Paula’s illness; and Abbie Wickett. At Paula’s request, there will be no service. The family will have a memorial celebration in July 2011.
