ETNA – Walter E. Brown Jr., 69, died Dec. 27, 2010, at his home, after a period of ill health. He was born June 5, 1941, in Charleston, son of Walter E. and Goldie (Flannery) Brown Sr. Walter went to work at an early age. He was a carpenter and a heavy equipment operator for many years. He owned and operated Little Angel Woodcrafts, Etna, for several years. For 36 years, Walter was a member of the Plymouth and Etna fire departments. At the time of his death, he held the position of fire police on Etna Department. Walter was predeceased by his life partner of 40 years, Ruth M. Gibbons, March 28, 2009. He is survived by his son and his wife, Walter E. and Diana Gibbons of Etna; two stepsons, John Gibbons of Etna and Lawrence Gibbons of Oklahoma; two stepdaughters, Vera Morgan of Virginia and Christine Armstrong of Louisiana; one brother, Dennis Brown of Connecticut; two sisters, Dolly Barkley of Connecticut and Beulah Jordon of Arizona; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Cecil Brown. Memorial services with fire department honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Jubilee Family Worship Center, Elm Street, Newport, with Pastor Brian Woodbury officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Newport Community Food Bank, 26 High St., Newport, ME 04953.
