EAST WATERBORO – George A. White, “Grampy George,” 82, formerly of Stratford, Conn., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Gosnell Hospice House, Scarborough. Mr. White was born at Grand Lake Stream, a son of Chester F. and Pauline L. Bagley White. He was educated in Maine schools and was a graduate of Lee Academy, Lee. He was a supervisor for United Illuminating and retired in 1991 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Masons in Connecticut and worked as a volunteer at Masonic Home, Wallingford, Conn. He also served honorably in the Connecticut National Guard. His favorite pastime was salmon fishing in the Grand Lake Stream area. He enjoyed photography and traveling with his wife, Virginia. They purchased a motor home and visited 49 states, where they made friends throughout the country. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren grow and admiring their accomplishments. Predeceasing him was his wife of 57 years; and a sister, Helen Chandler. Surviving is his daughter, Robin L. White-Mellen and her husband, Barry, of Hollis; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, Daniel, of Buxton, and Jill Shea of Gray; and three great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Jackson, Daniel J. Jackson and Delia Shea. A private interment will take place at a later date. Contributions may be made to Gosnell House, 180 U.S. Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074.
