CARIBOU, Maine — Five people who were nabbed by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency during an aggressive roundup in November and December were indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury Tuesday.
The grand jury handed up 59 indictments against 56 individuals, according to Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins.
Collins said 22 of the cases directly involve drugs and-or alcohol as the basis of the criminal charge.
Five of the indictments resulted from a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigation of potential methamphetamine manufacturing facilities operating in Houlton.
On Nov. 15, about a dozen agents and a forensic chemist with the MDEA uncovered evidence at three locations in Houlton that indicated the drug was being manufactured there, according to MDEA Division Cmdr. Darrel Crandall.
MDEA lab teams searched locations on Foxcroft Road and First Street and in a wooded area at the end of First Street. Crandall said agents recovered evidence that included chemicals, solvents and other items typically used in the drug manufacturing process.
As a result of the investigation, Brian Flewelling, 22, of Houlton was indicted on a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release. Indicted on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine were: Melissa Tidd, 28, Houlton; Kenneth Williams, 41, Bangor.; and Kenneth Moore, 33, Houlton.
Nancy Hardy-Boles, 31, of Houlton was indicted on charges of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and two counts of possession of scheduled drugs. Hardy-Boles’ Foxcroft Road property was one of the locations the MDEA’s lab team examined after obtaining a search warrant.
