SKOWHEGAN – H. Bruce “cousin Brucie” Sherman, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, with his family by his side at home. He was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Island Falls, son of Waldo A. and Bessie M. (Eaton) Sherman. Bruce attended Island Falls schools and worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He married the love of his life, Marian A. (Sheerer) Sherman, in 1946, in East Stroudsburg, Pa. “And the cat came back.” was one of Bruce’s favorite stories to tell. In Pennsylvania, he was a member of Eagles Club, Marshall Creek Fire Co., and Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church. In Skowhegan he was a charter member of Skowhegan Community Action Group and Centenary United Methodist Church. Bruce was a choir member and part of the community chorus for many years. He was also a custodian for eight years. Bruce is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian A. (Sheerer) Sherman; a daughter, Pamella D. Southard and companion, Christina Prosser, of Madison; a son, Duane B. Sherman and companion, Maria Menendez, of Salem, Mass.; two granddaughters, Felicia A. Porter of Augusta and Amber R. Southard of Bangor; one grandson, Jeremy D. Southard of Skowhegan; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Porter of Rockport, Ashley Morton of Rockport, Lily-Ann Marie Ogden of Bangor and Landen Michael Michaud Southard of Eagle Lake; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Skowhegan.
