BORON, Calif., and CARMEL – Malcolm Donald “Donnie” Hewes, 52, left this mortal existence Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011. He died working on his ranch in Boron, Calif., doing what he loved. Donnie was born Nov. 8, 1958, in Bangor, to Malcolm and Dorothy Hewes. He was the oldest of six children, Donna and Doug Smith of Hermon, Deanna and Andy Whitham of Carmel, Dana Hewes of Hermon, Delia and Allen Hartley of Glenburn and Darlene Hewes.
He had a passion for farming and his livestock, but his one true passion was his family. He was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sandra Jean Caler, for 32 years. He had two wonderful children, Carol-Ann and William Thomas of Boron, Calif., and Donald Malcolm and Andrea Hewes of Prescott Valley, Ariz. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to his six grandchildren, Asher, 5, Eden, 4, Dillon, 3, Rachel, 2, Zebulun, 1, and Dayton, 1 month. He was a graduate of Hermon High School, Class of 1977. After high school he made a life for himself and his family as the owner of M.E. Hewes and Sons. Later in life he was a CDL instructor and an over-the-road driver himself. Donnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a great love for his Heavenly Father and for his Savior Jesus Christ. He had the “gift to gab,” he would talk to anyone about anything. He especially loved to show off his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of. He will be missed.
Malcolm is survived by his immediate family, his in-laws in California, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Malcolm Edgar Hewes; his father-in-law, Sheldon Ernest Caler; and his baby sister, Darlene Francis Hewes. The world has lost a man among men.
Woods Family Funeral will administer services for Donnie Thursday, Feb. 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, North Edwards, Calif. A graveside ceremony will be held in the spring at Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon.
