EDMUNDS TOWNSHIP – Richard A. “Dick” Hallowell, 84, passed away Jan. 25, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1926, the son of Alton S. and Rachel H. (Benner) Hallowell.
Dick attended Lubec and Edmunds schools, and graduated from Dennysville High School. He was a devout Catholic. Dick married June (Kilby) in 1950, and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He worked as a sawyer at Hallowell Lumber, a family business, and owned and operated Dick’s Radio Service, Dennysville. Later he owned and operated a theater, an arcade and pool hall in Dennysville and a video business at his home in Edmunds.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June Hallowell; daughters, Mary Peabody and husband, Ronnie, of Jonesport, Elinor Young of Dover, N.H., Heather Pratt of Kenduskeag, Keith Hallowell and wife, Karen, and Merrill Hallowell and his wife, Crystal; grandchildren, Joshua, Christy, Julie, Sydney, Brian, Colby, Caite, Logan and Shana; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Gabby, Peyton, Max and Keith; and brother, Herbert of Baileyville. He was predeceased by his brother, John; and sister, Alice.
There will be a graveside service in the spring.
