MARTINEZ, Calif. – Alan Hagerthy passed away Feb. 6, 2011, at home in his sleep with family standing next to him. A longtime resident of Martinez, Calif., he was born in Maine.

Alan moved to Martinez, Calif., in 1963 and worked for Tefler Tank Lines as a machinist until he retired in 1993. He had many hobbies, including fishing, boating and camping. He loved the outdoors. He could always be found in his backyard restoring all his antique cars and driving them in parades with friends and family. He was a member of Martinez Historical Society, Northern Model T Club and Antique Big Rig Truck Club – ATHS. His two greatest pleasures in life were working hard and his family.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 31 years, Peggy; his son, Travis Alan Hagerthy; three daughters, Sherry and Robert Abac of Maui, Hawaii, Sharon and Bill Smothers of Yreka, Calif., and April and Ed Trueblood of Port Orchard, Wash.; Christin and Kip Poorf, Snookie and Fred Mursen, Mike and Debby Hagerthy, Debbie Hagerthy, Dawn and Bruce Goodall, and Patrice and Steve Mooney; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Aiello; and so many friends too numerous to mention. In Maine, he leaves his brother, George Hagerthy; sisters, Isma Parkhurst and Helen Gilbert; and other family members.

A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Connolly & Taylor Funeral Home, Martinez, Calif.
