LEWISTON – Amy Keck, 36, beloved daughter, niece, cousin, friend and colleague, died Feb. 12, 2011, at Hospice House, Auburn. Amy was born Sept. 4, 1974, the daughter of JoAnn Moody of Skowhegan and Daniel Keck of Wylie, Texas.
She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1992, Mount Holyoke College in 1996 and the University of Maine School of Law in 1999. Amy dedicated her life to helping others, represented best by her lifelong career as an attorney at Pine Tree Legal Assistance in the Bangor and Lewiston offices. She was the 2009 recipient of the Thomas P. Downing Award, which recognizes those who work tirelessly, often quietly, and with great caring and make significant contributions to Maine’s low income citizens. Before becoming gravely ill, Amy fulfilled her wishes to swim with dolphins in the Florida Keys, enjoy all four parks of Disney World, and attend a Red Sox game and Cirque du Soleil. Amy was deeply touched by the creation of “Team Amy,” organized in her honor for the 2009 and 2010 Dempsey Challenge. The team raised significant funds in support of cancer victims and their families who utilize the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center, where Amy received her treatment.
Amy is survived by her parents, her extended family, friends and colleagues.
A private memorial service for Amy’s family will be held later in the year. Cards and notes for family and friends will be forwarded from the administrative office of Pine Tree Legal Assistance, P.O. Box 547, Portland, ME 04112. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Pine Tree Legal Assistance or Dolphin Research Center, 58901 Overseas Highway, Grassy Key, FL 33050-6019.
