PLEASANT POINT – Philip Michael “Mike” Farrell Sr., 73, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011.
He was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Worcester, Mass., son of the late Dennis J. and Mary Elizabeth (Fallon) Farrell Sr.
He attended the Barry Robinson school in Norfolk, Va. Philip joined the U.S. Army in 1955 making it his career. He served with Company A Medical Corps in the Vietnam War as a combat medic and at Walter Reed Medical Center. Philip held the rank of first sergeant and earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star, and retired in 1976. He was a past state of Maine commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of the 82nd Airborne Black Bear Division, a past president of Eastport Rotary Club, and a life member of American Legion Post 11 and Disabled American Veterans. Philip enjoyed coin collecting, traveling and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Dennis J. Jr., John William, Daniel P. and Joseph Dean Farrell. He is survived by his wife, Alvera of Pleasant Point; two sons, Michael Anthony Farrell and his wife, Fonda, of Veazie and Philip Michael Farrell Jr. of Pleasant Point; seven daughters, Marla J. Farrell and husband, Martin Dana, and Margaret Mitchell, both of Pleasant Point, Gail Kane and Jerry of Sullivan, Sharon Roberts and husband, Dave, of Dennysville, Theresa Sapiel and husband, James, of Pleasant Point, Lisa Schonborg of Worcester, Mass., and Elizabeth Limewood and husband, Dave, of Bonaire, Ga.; one brother, Timothy Francis Farrell and his wife, Suree, of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Priscillia A. Farrell of Trenton, N.J.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mike would like to say a special thanks to Linda Stanley, Patty and Gary Craig, Ruth and Larry Doak, and the Passamaquoddy tribe. “After 30 years on the Pleasant Point Reservation, thank you for allowing me to be buried at the place I loved most. Now, I finally own a piece of land.”
Visitation will be held 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the family residence, 18 Warrior Drive, Pleasant Point. Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Pleasant Point. Burial will be afterward at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
