GLENBURN, Maine — Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a 911 call Wednesday morning and sent Deputy Mark Lloyd to a County Road home to investigate the emergency.
“It came over as a 911 open line,” the deputy said.
When Lloyd arrived at the home around 8:45 a.m., he looked through the window and didn’t see a soul, but he did notice the home wasn’t empty.
“All I could see was the pug,” he said.
The small dog with a wrinkled face and curled tail was Lucy.
The deputy entered the home, which is owned by a 67-year-old man, to ensure no one inside was involved in an emergency. After finding no one, he picked up a phone.
“I could hear the dog barking through the phone from the living room,” Lloyd said. “The pug had actually grabbed the cordless handset and dialed 911 when [she] was chewing it.”
Lloyd left the home, leaving a note about why he had entered, and later returned when he noticed the homeowner’s car in the driveway.
“The homeowner said when he left [the house] the phone was on the coffee table and the homeowner found it on the recliner” slightly chewed, the deputy said.
